Softball Preview: Piedmont Highlanders vs. Mt. Eden Monarchs
Piedmont is 8-2 against Mt. Eden since May of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Piedmont Highlanders will look to defend their home field against the Mt. Eden Monarchs at 4:00 p.m. Piedmont will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive.
In what's become a running theme this season, Piedmont gave their fans yet another huge victory on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 15-5 margin over San Lorenzo. The high-scoring effort was just what Piedmont needed considering they were shutout in their previous game.
Miya Fujimoto was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing an inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Fujimoto was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Sa'Mara Levi was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and a triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Leggett, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Mt. Eden was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 20-2 to Encinal.
Mt. Eden saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jasmine Cruz, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.
Piedmont is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. As for Mt. Eden, their loss dropped their record down to 11-6.
