Recap: Plant Panthers vs. Sumner Stingrays

The Plant Panthers extended their postseason success on Friday against the Sumner Stingrays. They snuck past the Stingrays with a 20-14 victory. The win was familiar territory for Plant who now have 11 in a row.

Leading Plant to victory were Waltez Clark and Jc Mirasola. Clark gained 107 total yards and a touchdown, while Mirasola threw for 175 yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes.

The team's defense also helped out by holding Sumner to a paltry 214 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Plant's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid the passer out six times before it was all said and done. Alex Tate was especially locked on to Sumner's QB and sacked him four times.

When it comes to explaining why Sumner lost, one person who can't be blamed is Malik Brown. Despite the final result, he picked up 152 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Brown's longest reception was for an incredible 78 yards.

The last time Plant lost on the road was back back in August. Having now won five straight away matches, they've pushed their record up to 11-2. As for Sumner, their loss ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 11-2.

Plant will head out on the road to face off against Columbus at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Columbus knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully Plant likes a good challenge. Sumner does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
