Basketball Recap: Hickory Flat Comes Up Short

Hickory Flat and Wheeler squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Hickory Flat had to settle for second. They took a 45-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wheeler Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Rebels can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 206th, while the Eagles are ranked 99th).

Wheeler can attribute much of their success to Macie Arnold, who posted 14 points along with eight steals and six boards. Arnold has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 16 times she's played. Camryn Sanford was another key player, putting up seven points.

Hickory Flat now has a losing record of 15-16. As for Wheeler, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-12 record this season.

Hickory Flat does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Wheeler, they will face off against Thrasher at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Wheeler is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.9 points per game this season.
