Softball Recap: Sumner Takes a Loss

Friday just wasn't the day for Sumner's offense. They fell 4-0 to the Puyallup Vikings on Friday. Spartans fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Vikings since Friday.

Josslyn Sorensen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

The defeat was their first at home, dropping their record down to 7-3. As for Puyallup, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-2 record this season.

While Sumner had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
