Preview: Wrangell Wolves vs. Metlakatla Chiefs

Wrangell has played every game this season on their home court, but they'll have to hit the road on Friday. The Wrangell Wolves and the Metlakatla Chiefs will face off on January 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Saturday, Wrangell narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Petersburg 40-37. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Wrangell has posted against Petersburg since February 25, 2022.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Wrangell to victory, but perhaps none more so than Alana Harrison, who scored 13 points. Addy Andrews was another key contributor, scoring six points.

Meanwhile, Metlakatla came tearing into Saturday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.2 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took down Homer 65-47.

Wrangell pushed their record up to 2-0 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Metlakatla, their win bumped their record up to 6-2.

Wrangell came up short against Metlakatla when the teams last played back in March of 2023, falling 51-47. Can Wrangell avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
