Softball Preview: Raines Vikings vs. Stanton Blue Devils
Raines has been on the road for four straight, but on Tuesday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Stanton Blue Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Raines fell victim to First Coast and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They wound up on the wrong side of a rough 15-0 walloping at the hands of the Buccaneers. Raines has struggled against First Coast recently, as their game on Monday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Meanwhile, Stanton put the finishing touches on their sixth blowout victory of the season on Thursday. Everything went their way against Parker as Stanton made off with a 24-8 victory. Stanton's hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Leah Joseph made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 18 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off five hits. Joseph has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive pitching appearances. Joseph was also big at the plate, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with six RBI, four runs, and two doubles.
In other batting news, Stanton got a massive performance out of Maddie Hicks, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-6. Another player making a difference was Talayah Pusey, who went 2-for-5 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.
Raines' defeat dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Stanton, their win bumped their record up to 6-7.
