South proved they can win big last Wednesday (they won by nine) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Peninsula Panthers 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Spartans have posted since February 25th.

South's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Cody Pierson, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

South's win bumped their record up to 9-5. As for Peninsula, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season.

South has already played their next matchup, a 9-5 defeat against West Covina on the 5th. As for Peninsula, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 4-3 loss against West on the 5th.
