Softball Recap: Homestead Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Victory

Homestead waltzed into their game on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came out on top against the Los Altos Eagles by a score of 6-2. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 8-3 back in April.

Mackenzie Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Izzy Gutierrez was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Cierra Hagan was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Homestead hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in four consecutive matches.

Homestead pushed their record up to 11-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Los Altos, their loss dropped their record down to 11-10.

Homestead has already played their next contest, a 5-2 victory against Gunn on the 13th. As for Los Altos, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 5-3 win against Mountain View on the 9th.
