Softball Recap: Wagner Victorious

Wagner proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by 12) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 victory over the Hondo Owls.

Gizelle Martinez and Marleena Nuncio did most of the damage at the plate: Martinez scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances, while Nuncio went 1-for-2 with two runs and one triple. Those two stolen bases gave Martinez a new career-high. Jada Donaldson was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

Wagner now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Hondo, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Coming up, Wagner will be playing at home against Southside at 3:40 p.m. on Friday. As for Hondo, they will be taking part in a tournament against Uvalde at 9:00 a.m. on Friday.
