Softball Recap: Westwood Wins Going Away Against Medfield

Westwood hadn't done well against Medfield recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Wolverines were the clear victors by a 6-0 margin over the Warriors. The result was nothing new for the Wolverines, who have now won five contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Medfield's batters probably weren't too happy with Bridget Mulkeen, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 13 Ks (she gave up two walks). Mulkeen has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Mia Poles, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Sasha Marino, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Westwood has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.2 runs over those games. As for Medfield, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 4-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Westwood will welcome Ashland at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Wolverines' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Clockers have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season. As for Medfield, they will host Medway at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
