Baseball Recap: Canyon Continues Home Dominance on Tuesday

While Canyon's win against Crean Lutheran wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Comanches narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Saints 11-9. The win continues a trend for the Comanches in their matchups with the Saints: they've now won six in a row.

Kemuel Zhang tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March.

At the plate, Cooper Stevenson was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chip Mertz, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

Canyon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive matches.

Canyon's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.4 runs over those games. As for Crean Lutheran, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 15-8 record this season.

Canyon will have a chance to go back-to-back against Crean Lutheran: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday.
