Basketball Recap: Cypress Ridge Starts off Right with Win over Alief Hastings

Cypress Ridge had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They put the hurt on the Alief Hastings Bears with a sharp 72-50 win on Saturday. That's more bragging rights for the Rams, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Despite the loss, Alief Hastings still got an impressive performance from Deondra Jones, who went 8-for-16 on his way to 22 points and five steals. Jones is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last three games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Victor Okeke, who posted six points and six rebounds.

Alief Hastings dropped their record down to 0-2 with the defeat, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Cypress Ridge will face off against Mayde Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Alief Hastings, they will venture away from home to challenge Almeta Crawford at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
