Basketball Recap: Cheyenne Wells Falls Short of Flatirons Academy in the Playoffs

Cheyenne Wells and Flatirons Academy squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Cheyenne Wells had to settle for second. They fell 48-39 to the Flatirons Academy Bison. The Tigers' loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

When it comes to explaining why Cheyenne Wells lost, don't look at Corey Hill. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Hill has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more boards the last 52 times he's played. Gabriel Zamarippa was another key player, putting up five points and seven rebounds.

Flatirons Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Trey Abeyta, who posted ten points. That's the most points Abeyta has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Brandon Ewing, who had 11 points in addition to seven boards and three steals.

Cheyenne Wells' defeat dropped their record down to 21-5. As for Flatirons Academy, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 21-6.

Cheyenne Wells wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 47-35 loss against Stratton on the 15th. As for Flatirons Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 59-43 defeat against McClave on the 15th.
