Baseball Recap: Southwood Comes Up Short

Southwood extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 15 on Monday, dropping their season record down to 0-14 in the process. They came up short against the Maconaquah Braves, falling 10-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Knights of the 9-4 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Dalton Barney made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI.

As for Maconaquah, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games.

On Maconaquah's side, Bennett Isenburg was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Isenburg has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

In other pitching news, Cohen Helmuth looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Back at the plate, Caiden Richards was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Kobe Bowman was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Southwood is set to challenge their familiar foe Northfield at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Maconaquah will take on rival Peru at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
