Softball Recap: Highland Wins Going Away Against Pleasant

Highland had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 13-run drubbing they dealt Pleasant on Friday. The Fighting Scots blew past the Spartans 16-3. The Fighting Scots not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 9th (when they won 21-6).

Lydia Shaffer made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Kate Clements was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Dalaynie Hernandez, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

Highland hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are 6-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Highland's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 13-9. As for Pleasant, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-13 record this season.

Highland does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Pleasant, they have already played their next game, a 19-9 victory against Marion Harding on the 10th.
