Softball Recap: Athens Warriors vs. Mt. Zion Braves
Athens was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against the Mt. Zion Braves, falling 11-2. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Warriors of the 8-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.
Preslie Buckmaster 2027 made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run. MacKenzie Ratliff 2026 also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Athens' loss dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Mt. Zion, they pushed their record up to 6-1 with the victory, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season.
Looking ahead, Athens will head out on the road to face off against PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mt. Zion, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 16-5 win against Taylorville on the 12th.
