Baseball Recap: Paul Cuffee Takes a Loss

Paul Cuffee had lost 11 straight at home dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 0-13 to make it 12. They lost 15-0 to the Blackstone Valley Prep PRIDE. The shutout was out of character for Paul Cuffee seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in April.

As for Blackstone Valley Prep, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-8. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games.

For Blackstone Valley Prep's part, Johan Medina made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave Medina a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

In other batting news, Alex Torres and Owen Castro did most of the damage at the plate: Torres went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Castro went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Torres is becoming a predictor of Blackstone Valley Prep's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 6-7 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Adrian Fernandez Jimenez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Paul Cuffee has already played their next contest, an 11-5 loss against Hope on the 20th. As for Blackstone Valley Prep, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 21-2 victory against Times Squared Academy on the 20th.
