Baseball Game Preview: North Montgomery Chargin' Chargers vs. Southmont Mounties

An exciting North v. South battle is about to be fought. The North Montgomery Chargin' Chargers will look to defend their home field on Saturday against the Southmont Mounties at 10:00 a.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Southmont is facing North Montgomery at the wrong time: North Montgomery suffered their first home loss of the season on Wednesday and they're likely out for redemption. They lost 9-2 to the Warriors. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Chargin' Chargers have suffered against the Warriors since April 20, 2021.

Cade Cole and Aiden Ambriz-Cruz did some serious damage despite the final result: Cole went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double, while Ambriz-Cruz went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, Southmont came up short against Frankfort on Wednesday, falling 8-1. The match marked the Mounties' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Southmont saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cale Chadd, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. That double was Chadd's first of the season.

This is the second loss in a row for Southmont and nudges their season record down to 2-7. As for North Montgomery, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-2.

Southmont's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: North Montgomery has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9 hits per game. It's a different story for Southmont, though, as they've been averaging 8.7 hits. Given North Montgomery's sizable advantage in that area, the Mounties will need to find a way to close that gap.
