The Clearfield Falcons will head out to challenge the Woods Cross Wildcats at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Clearfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.7 runs per game this season.
Clearfield is headed into the contest having just suffered their biggest loss since April 10, 2024 on Tuesday. They lost 11-3 to Box Elder. The Falcons have struggled against the Bees recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
Jenna Lloyd spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and eight unearned) runs on 12 hits.
At the plate, Clearfield saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lyla Leonhardt, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Woods Cross never got on the board in their matchup on Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Roy on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 14-7 margin over the Royals. Considering the Wildcats have won four matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Woods Cross also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Bree Benson gave up three earned (and four unearned) runs on nine hits. Benson has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Rylee Feller was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Audrey Ayala was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all six of her plate appearances.
Woods Cross kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Clearfield's defeat dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Woods Cross, they moved to 4-8 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Clearfield hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .351. However, it's not like Woods Cross struggles in that department as they've averaged .317. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Clearfield took their victory against Woods Cross in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 15-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
