Basketball Recap: Mayfield Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Abigail Powers and Brianna Iannuzzi

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Mayfield can now relate to. They took a 48-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lake George Lakers on Tuesday. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Lakers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2021.

Brianna Iannuzzi and Abigail Powers certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Iannuzzi posted 20 points along with six rebounds and four steals, while Powers dropped a double-double with 14 points and ten boards. That was a full 35% of Mayfield's points, marking the third time in a row Powers has had more than a third of the team's points.

Even though they lost, Mayfield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in four consecutive matches.

Lake George got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Morgan Stanco out in front who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 14 boards. The dominant performance also gave Stanco a new career-high in blocks (two). Madyson Brennan was another key player, dropping a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds.

Mayfield's record is now 11-10. As for Lake George, their record is now 12-7.

Mayfield does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Lake George, they will head out to take on Greenwich at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Greenwich will roll in looking for their 22nd straight win, something Lake George surely won't give up without a fight.
