Softball Recap: West Central Beats Pioneer for Their Fourth Straight Victory

West Central extended their winning streak to four on Thursday, bumping their season record up to 13-5 in the process. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against the Pioneer Panthers. The Trojans have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Panthers, too.

Jalie Glasford spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on 11 hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, West Central let Sydney Mellon and Brooklynn Lattimore run wild. Mellon went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs, while Lattimore went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

As for Pioneer, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-10. That's two games in a row now that they have lost by just one run.

On Pioneer's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Katelynn Haynes gave up three earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits.

At the plate, Madyson Shaffer was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Addison Kennell was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs.

Coming up, West Central will head out on the road to challenge Kankakee Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Pioneer, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 4-3 win against North Judson-San Pierre on the 16th.
