Baseball Game Preview: Merritt Island Mustangs vs. Wheaton Academy Warriors

The Merritt Island Mustangs will take on the Wheaton Academy Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Merritt Island's favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while Wheaton Academy has been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.

Last Wednesday, Merritt Island was able to grind out a solid win over Bayside, taking the game 6-2.

Chase Burns looked comfortable as he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Asher Anderson was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Ty Brandes, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Merritt Island was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bayside only posted a batting average of .240.

Meanwhile, Wheaton Academy fell victim to Satellite and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They came up short against the Scorpions, falling 10-0.

Merritt Island is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Wheaton Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 3-6.
