Baseball Recap: Northwestern Extends Winning Streak to Three

Northwestern hadn't beaten Hialeah-Miami Lakes on the road since March 3, 2020 but that history sure didn't bother them on Monday. Everything went the Northwestern Bulls' way against the Hialeah-Miami Lakes Trojans as the Northwestern Bulls made off with a 14-2 win. Considering the Bulls have won three matches by more than ten runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

L. Diaz made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (one). He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while going 2-for-2. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Northwestern got a massive performance out of E Barker, who went 2-for-3 with two triples, four RBI, and two runs. Barker has become a key player for Northwestern: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-2 otherwise. Deeangelo Echevarria was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one triple.

Northwestern kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

The victory was the third in a row for Northwestern, bringing their record for this year to 4-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Hialeah-Miami Lakes, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-6.

Looking ahead, Northwestern will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Miami Country Day at 3:30 p.m. Miami Country Day has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.56 runs per game on average), something Northwestern will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Hialeah-Miami Lakes, they will head out to take on Miami at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
