Athens barely beat Wyalusing Valley the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Athens put the hurt on Wyalusing Valley with a sharp 19-4 victory on Thursday. Fans of the Wildcats have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

Duncan Thetga looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up four earned runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Athens let Brady Flynn and Nick Grazul run wild. Flynn scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Grazul went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Brendan Cooke, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Athens kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Athens' record is now 3-0. As for Wyalusing Valley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-5.

Looking ahead, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Athens Wildcats take on Mansfield Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Wyalusing Valley, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Wellsboro at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
