Softball Recap: Byron Gets the Win

Byron was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Durand on Monday. The Eagles put the hurt on the Railroaders with a sharp 16-1 victory. The Eagles not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since May 1, 2025 (when they won 17-2).

Emma Glass made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Harper Wilcox, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Gracie McDowell was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Byron always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .656. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Durand only posted an OBP of .200.

Byron's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Durand, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Byron is set to challenge their familiar foe Ovid-Elsie at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Durand will square off against rival Montrose at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
