Football Recap: Gretna Dragons vs. Ralston Rams
Gretna won against Platteview last Friday with 51 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. The Gretna Dragons simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Ralston Rams 51-20 on the road. Given the Dragons' advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska football rankings (they are ranked 35th, while the Rams are ranked 95th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Gretna got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Michael Knudsen out in front who threw for 270 yards and two touchdowns. A healthy portion of that aerial production (82 yards to be exact) went to Bryce Lakers, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Gretna was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 255 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2023.
Despite the defeat, Ralston had strong showings from Baer Blecha, who gained 96 total yards and a touchdown, and Cade Stix, who threw for 178 yards and a touchdown. The dominant performance also gave Blecha a new career-high in rushing yards.
The win (which was Gretna's third in a row) raised their record to 5-3. As for Ralston, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-5.
Gretna will take on Gretna East at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Gretna knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Gretna East likes a good challenge. As for Ralston, they will square off against Plattsmouth at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
