League recap: Petal extends winning streak with victory over Provine

Adding to the longest winning streak in 6A Region 3 this week, Petal beat Provine 41-14. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Panthers.

Terry fell to Brandon 55-15 last week, the largest margin of any game. Robert Johnson was a bright spot for the Bulldogs, as he ran for 115 yards in the loss.

Petal's dynamic duo of Kyle Smith and Jesse Jackson proved to be unstoppable against the Rams, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Smith threw for 118 yards and 2 touchdowns and Jackson had 46 yards receiving.

Oak Grove's Kirk McCarty and Jordan Mitchell have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. McCarty has thrown for 1,529 yards this season, while Mitchell, a 6-foot-2 receiver, has 26 catches for 559 yards. Marcus Boyles' team's Tyus Raine leads the league in rushing yards with 717.

The most important game in the league this week will be the match up between the Warriors and the Panthers. Oak Grove comes into the matchup ranked fifth in the state, while Petal ranks first.

One of 6A Region 3's premier quarterbacks will go head-to-head with its top pass rusher when Nevill Barr's team and the Panthers face off next week.

The league will see a high scoring game when the Warriors and Petal face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Oak Grove comes in having scored 162 this season, while the Panthers have scored 202. The Warriors scored 26 points last week as they defeated Forest Hill.
