Football Recap: Sean Byrnes Leads Villa Park's Defense on Friday + How To Watch

After only seven points in their last matchup, Villa Park made sure to put some points up on the board against Tesoro on Friday. The Spartans took down the Titans 42-24. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Spartans also won the last time the pair played back in October of 2024.

Matt Smith was a one-man wrecking crew as he threw for 206 yards and two TDs on only 18 passes, and also punched in one score on the ground.

Villa Park didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Sean Byrnes, Cooper Nagele, and Luvie Clark picked up one apiece. Byrnes is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last three games he's played.

Defeat or not, Tesoro got some senior leadership from Nic Brubaker and Braiden Vaca. Brubaker gained 179 total yards and a touchdown, while Vaca picked up 108 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. Brubaker got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 80 yards.

Villa Park now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Tesoro, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Coming up, Villa Park will be playing at home against Corona del Mar at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Sea Kings' defense has only allowed 12.8 points per game this season, so the Spartans' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Tesoro, they will face off against Yorba Linda at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
