Baseball Game Preview: West Bend East Suns vs. West Bend West Spartans

A classic East v. West matchup is on the schedule. The West Bend East Suns will be playing at home against the West Bend West Spartans at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. West Bend East is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.

On Friday, West Bend East didn't have quite enough to beat Nicolet and fell 5-4.

Colton Multerer put in work while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. He is becoming a predictor of West Bend East's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 0-7 when he doesn't).

Multerer wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Mason Sommer, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one double.

Meanwhile, West Bend West owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Saturday. They walked away with a 3-0 win over Fond du Lac. While the Spartans didn't have the best season last year (they finished 3-24), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

West Bend West also got a great performance from Colin Grass as he didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched.

West Bend West pushed their record up to 7-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for West Bend East, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-8.

Everything went West Bend East's way against West Bend West in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as West Bend East made off with a 7-1 victory. Do the Suns have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
