Basketball Recap: Emma Ludwig's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Freeport over Central

Freeport was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against the Central Jaguars, falling 56-35. The Bulldogs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Jaguars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2019.

Freeport lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Emma Ludwig, who posted ten points. That's the most points Ludwig has posted since back in November of 2023. Another player making a difference was Kayla Stephens, who had nine points.

Central got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Lakin Mathews out in front who put up 20 points in addition to five boards and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Harold, who posted 13 points along with five assists and three steals.

Freeport's loss dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Central, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-4.

Freeport will venture away from home to take on Paxton at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Paxton will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Freeport surely won't give up without a fight. As for Central, they will host West Florida Baptist Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Central has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
