Recap: Genoa-Hugo/Karval Pirates vs. Cheyenne Wells Tigers
The Genoa-Hugo/Karval Pirates's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fourth straight loss. They fell just short of Cheyenne Wells by a score of 43-40. Genoa-Hugo/Karval has not had much luck with Cheyenne Wells recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Several Pirates players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Chiara Pasquetti, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that Pasquetti pulled down eight or more rebounds. Rylee Kelly was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Genoa-Hugo/Karval bumped their record down to 3-8 with that loss, which was their fifth straight at home. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.8 points per game. As for Cheyenne Wells, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Genoa-Hugo/Karval the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Bethune at 4:00 p.m. on January 26th. As for Cheyenne Wells, Cheyenne Wells and Greeley County will face off at 3:00 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
