Baseball Game Preview: La Salle College Explorers vs. Cardinal O'Hara Lions

The La Salle College Explorers will face off against the Cardinal O'Hara Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Neither La Salle College nor Cardinal O'Hara posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Monday just wasn't the day for La Salle College's offense. They fell 3-0 to Conwell-Egan Catholic on Monday. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Explorers were not able to get on the board.

Jack Pye was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

Meanwhile, Cardinal O'Hara fell victim to Archbishop Wood and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They came up short against the Vikings, falling 7-0.

Cardinal O'Hara's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-8. As for La Salle College, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 8-1 and their overall record down to 12-2.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. La Salle College has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Cardinal O'Hara struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

La Salle College took their victory against Cardinal O'Hara when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 10-3 score. Do the Explorers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
