Cheyenne Mountain has gone 8-2 against Discovery Canyon recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Red-Tailed Hawks will be playing in front of their home fans against the Thunder at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Cheyenne Mountain took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They put the hurt on Vista Ridge with a sharp 11-3 victory. The win continues a trend for the Red-Tailed Hawks in their matchups with the Wolves: they've now won three in a row.
Luke Schriever looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Jansen Roberts was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. He continues to improve, besting his previous run total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Nate Glad, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Discovery Canyon got the win against Denver South on Saturday by a conclusive 11-2.
Discovery Canyon also got a great performance from Pierce Hafferkamp as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Luke Jensen, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jaxon Ross, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Discovery Canyon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Denver South only posted a batting average of .200.
Discovery Canyon is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Cheyenne Mountain, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-5-1.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cheyenne Mountain hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .356. However, it's not like Discovery Canyon struggles in that department as they've averaged .374. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
