Basketball Recap: Johnson City Takes a Loss

Johnson City was the 54-39 winner over Mason when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Johnson City Eagles took a 52-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mason Punchers on Tuesday. The Eagles' loss continues a trend for the team, making it four in a row.

Despite the defeat, Johnson City saw an underclassman step up: freshman Jadyn Jenkins went 9 of 20 en route to 26 points and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jenkins has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Collin Corpus, who posted seven points and three steals.

Johnson City now has a losing record at 8-9. As for Mason, with the win, they broke their eight-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-10.

Johnson City will venture away from home to square off against Goldthwaite at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Goldthwaite has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Mason, they will take on Center Point at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Mason is facing Center Point at the right time seeing as Center Point is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
