The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Saints will challenge the Peninsula Catholic Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Nansemond-Suffolk Academy's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
Nansemond-Suffolk Academy easily dispatched Christchurch School on Wednesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Nansemond-Suffolk Academy fell just short of Norfolk Academy by a score of 65-62 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Saints have suffered since February 9, 2024.

Despite the loss, Nansemond-Suffolk Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Madden Gilliatt dropped a double-double on 25 points and 13 boards. Gilliatt's evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Noah Cannon, who posted 21 points and six rebounds.
Even though they lost, Nansemond-Suffolk Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 11 consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Peninsula Catholic waltzed into their contest on Saturday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They came out on top against the Bishops by a score of 61-52. Given the Knights' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 48th, while the Bishops are ranked 160th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Peninsula Catholic's win came from a few key players Nansemond-Suffolk Academy will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jaylen Wynn, who put up 21 points. He is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last five games he's played. Devin Gaines was another key player, putting up 18 points.
Peninsula Catholic has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.6 points per game. As for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-6.
