Volleyball Preview: McCallum Knights vs. Bastrop Bears

McCallum has been on the road for two straight, but on Tuesday they'll finally head home. They will host the Bastrop Bears at 6:30 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

If Richards School for Young Women Leaders wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played McCallum, they should've done a better job of containing Aaniya Thornton. McCallum had just enough and edged Richards School for Young Women Leaders out 3-2 thanks in part to Thornton, who had 22 digs and three aces. She has been hot recently, having posted 20 or more digs the last three times she's played.

McCallum was staring down a 2-1 deficit headed into the fourth set, but they rallied to take the next two for the win. The match finished with set scores of 22-25, 25-18, 18-25, 25-17, 16-14.

McCallum was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 13 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least six aces in 13 consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Bastrop beat Crockett 3-1 on Tuesday.

Bastrop was especially dominant in the third set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 24-26, 25-15, 25-17.

McCallum is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 27-17 record this season. As for Bastrop, their win bumped their record up to 15-23.
