Softball Recap: Benton Wins Going Away Against Goreville

Benton's game on Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They put the hurt on the Goreville Blackcats with a sharp 11-3 victory. Considering the Rangers have won nine matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Benton got a massive performance out of Jaycee Webb (2027), who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Webb (2027) has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Makayla Shelton (2026), who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Benton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Goreville only posted a batting average of .158.

Benton moved to 13-11 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Goreville, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-15 record this season.

Benton and Goreville could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Rangers will face off against Waltonville at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday with a big rank disadvantage (259 vs. 127). Meanwhile, Goreville (ranked 368th) will meet Carterville (ranked seventh) at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
