A 3-2 slug fest, as Newington prevails.
Hall’s game against Newington can only be described with one word, ugly. Some may describe it as a defensive battle, but it was more of an offensive struggle for both teams. Penalties played another major role in the game. Both teams had their share of controversial calls but they seemed to hurt Hall more than Newington.
In fact, Hall’s only points came on a penalty, after Hall had given up the ball practically on their goal line. The second play Newington ran was an incomplete pass that was ruled to be intentional grounding. The penalty would have forced Newington back and out of their own end zone which made it a safety for Hall and put them ahead 2-0.
The score stayed like that until the forth quarter after a Hall fumble on their own forty five-yard line. Newington drove down the field, with the help of some penalties against Hall, until they had forth down and two on their own eight yard line. From there they kicked a field goal to make the score 3-2 with 2:17 left in the game. Hall tried to bounce back with three big catches coming from Ian Dugger, but in the end Hall was forced to turn it over on downs with the final score 3-2 in a disappointing loss.
