Basketball Game Preview: Albuquerque Academy Chargers vs. Sandia Matadors

The Albuquerque Academy Chargers just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Sandia Matadors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Albuquerque Academy will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.

On Thursday, Albuquerque Academy took their game with ease, bagging a 68-40 win over Sandia Prep. The Chargers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 22 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Sandia faced Albuquerque in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. Sandia took down Albuquerque 66-49.

Sandia found their leader in freshman Gad Harris, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 assists. The dominant performance gave Harris a new career-high in assists. Isaiah Brown was another key player, putting up eight points in addition to 11 rebounds and seven assists.

Sandia has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.2 points per game. As for Albuquerque Academy, they pushed their record up to 11-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home.

Albuquerque Academy took a serious blow against Sandia in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 91-61. Can Albuquerque Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
