Football Game Preview: Mariner Tritons vs. Fort Myers Green Wave

The Mariner Tritons will take on the Fort Myers Green Wave at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mariner will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last.

Mariner's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They blew past Cypress Lake 26-0. Given the Tritons' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 148th, while the Panthers are ranked 379th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mariner's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged three passes before it was all said and done. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Sophia Flinn, Mia Standard, and Ellamay Ramirez, who each picked up one interception apiece.

Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous eight contests, Fort Myers brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. They simply couldn't be stopped last Thursday as they easily beat Cypress Lake 36-0. The match was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Green Wave had established a 28-point advantage.

Fort Myers has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 6.6 points on average over those games. As for Mariner, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2.
