Basketball Recap: Aurora Central Trojans vs. Gateway Olympians
After a string of four wins, the Aurora Central Trojans's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell 72-64 to Gateway. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Aurora Central lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Camron Crisp, who scored 20 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Charles Laurendine II, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Aurora Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gateway only pulled down 13 offensive rebounds.
Gateway's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Hayden Von Boeckman, who scored 25 points along with two steals. Von Boeckman has been hot recently, having posted 20 or more points the last five times he's played. Maximus Matthews was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 16 rebounds.
Aurora Central's defeat dropped their record down to 9-7. As for Gateway, they pushed their record up to 9-9 with that win, which was their third straight on the road.
Aurora Central will take on the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Adams City has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 341 points over their last five matchups. As for Gateway, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Trojans at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Thornton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 last Monday.
