Basketball Recap: Worthington Kilbourne Comes Up Short

Worthington Kilbourne saw some tournament action on Saturday. They took a 55-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Ashley Ridge Swamp Foxes. While losing is never fun, the Wolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 349th in Ohio, while the Swamp Foxes are ranked 38th in South Carolina).

When it comes to explaining why Worthington Kilbourne lost, don't look at Zach Wolford. Despite the final result, he went 6 of 15 on his way to 18 points and eight rebounds. Those 18 points gave Wolford a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Page, who posted five points.

Ashley Ridge's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Clayton Everett Jr, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 boards. Everett Jr is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Javion Gathers, who went 6 of 9 on his way to 14 points in addition to five assists and three steals.

Worthington Kilbourne has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-3 record this season. As for Ashley Ridge, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.

Worthington Kilbourne wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 69-64 defeat against South River on the 30th. As for Ashley Ridge, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 67-64 victory against Gaffney on the 30th.
