Basketball Recap: Karlee Mayfield's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Northridge over Woods Cross

Northridge fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Woods Cross on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 53-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Woods Cross Wildcats. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 50-40 back in January.

Northridge lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Karlee Mayfield, who posted 13 points and eight rebounds. She is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Nini Johnson, who put up ten points and four steals.

Woods Cross got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ili Crockett out in front who had 11 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. Another player making a difference was Kiyomi Tauataina, who earned ten points and three steals.

Northridge dropped their record down to 8-14 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Woods Cross, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-8.

Northridge has already played their next contest, a 48-28 victory against Bonneville on the 14th. As for Woods Cross, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 63-34 loss against Bountiful on the 14th.
