Baseball Game Preview: Mercyhurst Prep Lakers vs. Greenfield Knights

The Mercyhurst Prep Lakers will take on the Greenfield Knights at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mercyhurst Prep will come into the game with an undefeated record on the line.

Mercyhurst Prep proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by six) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Villa Angela-St. Joseph 5-3. Those five runs were actually the fewest the Lakers have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

Bryce Schueth spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on six hits.

At the plate, Noah Reigel was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Zack Kruszewski also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Meanwhile, Greenfield has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.72 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Monday. They lost 10-3 to South Range. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Knights have suffered since February 28th.

Greenfield saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Clark Johnson, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Simon Quinn was another, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Mercyhurst Prep's victory bumped their record up to 9-0. As for Greenfield, their loss dropped their record down to 14-4.

Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Mercyhurst Prep has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.4 hits per game. However, it's not like Greenfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.6 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
