Basketball Recap: Jaedon Ward Key Part of a Team Effort in Lightning Win

Legacy lost to Mead back in December of 2021, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Tuesday. The Legacy Lightning came out on top against the Mead Mavericks by a score of 65-54. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Lightning.

Legacy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaedon Ward led the charge by going 8 of 12 on his way to 18 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. Ward is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Allshouse, who went 6 for 9 on his way to 12 points and seven assists.

Legacy was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mead only racked up 11 assists.

When it comes to explaining why Mead lost, don't look at Matthew Angelo. Despite the final result, he went 8 of 15 on his way to 20 points in addition to seven assists and five boards. The dominant performance gave Angelo a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Max Windhorst, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 12 points and seven boards.

Legacy has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 4-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.0 points per game. As for Mead, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-6.

Legacy will take on Fairview at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Fairview is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.5 points per game this season. As for Mead, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 67-55 victory against Riverdale Ridge on the 8th.
