Basketball Recap: Red Springs Starts Season with Loss on the Road

Red Springs kicked off their season on the road on Monday and hit a couple of potholes. They were beaten by the Western Harnett Eagles 53-12. The Red Devils were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-8.

Despite the loss, Red Springs saw an underclassman step up: freshman Tajuana Farrington posted eight points.

Western Harnett found their leader in sophomore Tamara Hayes, who went 9-for-19 en route to 25 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Hayes has scored at least a third of the Eagles' points. Ta'Ziyah Elliott was another key player, putting up seven points.

Western Harnett now has a winning record of 2-1.

Red Springs has already played their next game, a 37-16 victory against Douglas Byrd on the 25th. Hopefully Western Harnett paid attention to the Red Devils' contest: the next time they hit the field, they'll take on the Red Devils at 6:00 p.m. on the 5th.
