Recap: Lee County Yellow Jackets vs. Richmond Raiders

The Lee County Yellow Jackets suffered their biggest loss since December 12, 2023 on Tuesday. They suffered a rough 68-44 defeat at the hands of Richmond. Lee County was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 40-17.

When it comes to explaining why Lee County lost, one person who can't be blamed is Gillian Garrison. Despite the final result, she scored 21 points along with six rebounds and five assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Garrison has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kelyce Mcswain, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds and three blocks.

Lee County struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Richmond's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jamyia "Juicy" Lindsey led the charge by dropping a double-double on 35 points and ten rebounds. Lindsey hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jasiah "JoJo" Gilchrist, who scored 18 points along with eight steals.

Lee County has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season. As for Richmond, their win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lee County will take on Scotland at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Scotland is coming into the match hot, having won their last seven games. Richmond won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Pine Forest at 6:00 p.m. on January 17th. Pine Forest will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 211th, while Richmond is ranked 46th).
