Softball Recap: Riverside-Durham Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Victory

Riverside-Durham proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by 19) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Jordan Falcons 5-3. The win was familiar territory for the Pirates, who have now won six matches in a row.

Grace Arrington made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played.

Arrington wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Nehir Volkan, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

Riverside-Durham's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-4. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.7 runs over those games. As for Jordan, with the defeat, they broke their eight-game winning streak and moved their record to 14-3.

Riverside-Durham didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 9-8 loss against East Chapel Hill on the 29th. As for Jordan, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 16-7 victory against Northern Durham on the 29th.
