Basketball Recap: Alhambra Takes a Loss

Alhambra was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a blow against the Fairfax Stampede, falling 72-12. The Lions lost against the Stampede in their previous head to head back in February of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 57-23 score last time.

When it comes to explaining why Alhambra lost, don't look at Ixchel Aleman Saldivar. Despite the final result, she posted eight points.

Fairfax's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mel Romero, who went 9 for 16 on her way to 20 points in addition to eight boards and five assists. The matchup was Romero's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ajana Kenyatta, who almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds.

Alhambra's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Fairfax, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-4.

Alhambra wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 50-43 loss against Central on the 13th. As for Fairfax, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 95-13 win against Metro Tech on the 13th.
