Basketball Recap: Cypress Springs Takes Down Desoto in a Playoff Battle

With a playoff win on the line, Cypress Springs rose to the challenge on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the DeSoto Eagles 78-27. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 22 matches by 20 points or more this season.

Leading Cypress Springs to victory were Ayla Mcdowell and Jemini Mitchell. Mcdowell dropped a double-double with 27 points and 14 rebounds, while Mitchell dropped a double-double with 29 points and 12 boards. Mcdowell has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 21 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Tamiah Harrison, who posted six points in addition to seven steals and five assists.

Cypress Springs smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in six consecutive games.

Cypress Springs pushed their record up to 30-3 with the win, which was their 21st straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.6 points over those games. As for DeSoto, their loss dropped their record down to 20-17.

Coming up, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Panthers take on the Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. Lancaster will roll in looking for their 13th straight victory, something Cypress Springs surely won't give up without a fight. DeSoto does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
